The Energy Regulation Board (ERB) has increased fuel pump prices effective midnight on 30th November 2025, citing rising international oil prices and continued depreciation of the Kwacha.
According to ERB chairperson James Banda, petrol has gone up by 96 ngwee per litre, diesel by K1.63, kerosene by K1.47, and Jet A-1 by K1.67. The new prices will remain in effect until the next monthly review.
“In view of the increase in international oil prices and the slate exchange rate since the last fuel price review on 31 October 2025, the Energy Regulation Board has increased pump prices per litre of petrol by 96 ngwee, diesel by K1.63, kerosene by K1.47 and Jet A-1 by K1.67,” Banda said.
Meanwhile, Economic analyst Kelvin Chisanga says the adjustment will have immediate ripple effects across key sectors of the economy.
“This adjustment is expected to automatically raise transport, production and distribution expenses, putting upward pressure on the cost of living,” Chisanga said.
He noted that agriculture, manufacturing, and logistics operations are among the first to be affected, as rising fuel costs translate into higher commodity prices and reduced profit margins.
Chisanga further warned that the hike introduces renewed inflationary risks at a time when Zambia had begun to register signs of stability.
“The fuel hike also poses renewed inflationary spikes and risks at a time when stability is seen improving,” he added.
He said the development highlights the ongoing need for energy sector diversification, improved supply chain efficiencies, and consistent policy measures to cushion consumers.
“This shows the importance of stronger energy diversification and sustained policy actions to support economic resilience,” Chisanga said.
