Lusaka – A Zambia Revenue Authority (ZRA) employee accused of facilitating the transfer of a government vehicle to Archbishop Alick Banda has denied the allegation, saying he was a victim of internal fraud, according to News Diggers.
Mulopa Kaunda told News Diggers that he has never owned, sold, or even seen the vehicle ZRA claims he purchased from the institution and later sold to the Catholic cleric. Kaunda says the claims have subjected him to more than four years of public ridicule and reputational harm.
“I have never seen or touched the vehicle that ZRA claimed I bought from the institution and sold to Archbishop Alick Banda,” Kaunda was quoted as saying.
According to News Diggers, Kaunda alleged that fraudulent receipts and supporting documents were generated in his name by his named supervisor as part of a scheme to illegally dispose of government vehicles from ZRA. He maintains that his identity was used without his knowledge to legitimize the transaction.
The allegations raise concerns about internal controls and asset disposal procedures at ZRA, particularly how official vehicles are documented and transferred. Kaunda says the episode unfairly dragged a senior religious leader into what he describes as an internal corruption scheme.
ZRA had not immediately responded to the claims at the time of publication, News Diggers reported.
